Truly interdisciplinary in nature, the Global Enterprise Technology (GET) curriculum is designed to better prepare students for successful technology careers in complex, large-scale and global operating environments. The curriculum focus is in 5 key areas:
Syracuse University faculty worked with JPMorgan Chase technologists to understand the dynamic needs of a global enterprise technology organization. They combined real-world experience with foundational knowledge to create unique course content. The GET curriculum teaches foundational concepts with insight to apply learning within a global business. Industry practitioners from companies participating in The HUB collaboration bring the real world into the classroom, providing internships, guest lecturers, realistic course projects and project reviewers. Other institutions of higher learning participating in The HUB collaboration will have access to the GET curriculum and case studies.
Experiential and problem-based learning are critical elements of the GET curriculum. Learning from direct experience structures knowledge and skills while providing context. It also enables students to test concepts in a real-world environment. Problem-based learning increases the ability to think critically while fostering greater engagement with the content and promoting knowledge retention. To support experiential and problem-based learning, the curriculum offers the Immersion Experience that can be completed within a four-year degree program.
In 2008, Syracuse University introduced a GET undergraduate minor designed to prepare students from all undergraduate majors for careers in globally-distributed, technology-driven organizations. The GET minor includes business, engineering and computer science, and information management courses. A GET Masters program is planned.
