The GET Immersion Experience lets students apply what they learn in the classroom
Students at participating universities enrolled in the GET curriculum are eligible to apply for the Immersion Experience Internship with companies participating in The HUB collaboration. The Internship begins in January and ends in August. Through a combination of earning credit for the Immersion Experience a required online course and optional additional online courses, students are able to stay on track to graduate in 4 years. The Internship provides students with a rich work experience while enrolled in an integrated, faculty-led parallel course, which takes place over the same period. It combines daily work at the student's respective company and coursework encourages students to reflect on their experiences, sharing them with other interns working in the same company and, as appropriate, with interns from other companies. Toward the conclusion of the Immersion Experience, student teams prepare a formal presentation to senior management on insights gained during their experience and propose solutions to technology related issues, such as:
- aspects of the experience that were positive,
- aspects of the experience that could be improved
- lessons learned and/or valuable experiences that helped them understand the workings of business better
- opportunities for technology improvement to help solve business challenges
Who qualifies for the GET Immersion Experience
In addition to being enrolled in the GET curriculum, qualifications will vary with the sponsoring university, but generally will include:
- Strong academic record with a preferred minimum GPA of 3.2
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and an aptitude for leadership
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, to multi-task, and to solve problems creatively
- Evidence of being self-directed, results-oriented, and customer-focused
- Technical skills required may include programming, requirements gathering, infrastructure analysis or support.
Students are eligible to participate in the GET Immersion Experience beginning in their Sophomore year.
How to apply for the GET Immersion Experience
Students apply for the Immersion Experience in September; final selections are made in November. Immersion Experience assignments begin in January.
