Girls Get IT! Camp |
The JPMorgan Chase - Syracuse University Collaboration partnered with the Syracuse City School District to sponsor the Girls Get It! STEM camp. From July 11th to July 17th thirty-two middle school girls from the Syracuse City School District worked on engineering and technology projects at the Girls Get It! STEM camp at Syracuse University. The activities included building an electric car, designing and launching a bottle rocket, assembling and testing an earthquake-proof structure, creating a website, and learning about chemical engineering by formulating lip gloss.
Each of the activities planned throughout the week was designed to introduce the students to one or more of the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and math). The girls used their critical thinking skills and problem solving abilities along with teamwork skills to solve real-world problems.
Volunteers for the event included teachers, undergraduate and graduate students, JPMorgan Chase employees and SU staff. They helped the girls by coordinating the activities and coaching them throughout each of the specific projects.
