When companies hire entry-level employees, they need college graduates who already possess hands-on experience. They need graduates who know the technology and large-scale information systems that companies rely on.
But that scenario is fraught with some problems. For students, the move from classroom to corporation is often daunting. UD graduates are skilled in theory and content. But content capability does not necessarily adequately prepare students for the reality of a complex, global operating environment.
The GET internship from January to August steeps students in work in a corporate setting. It gives them the chance to apply their classroom learning and problem-solving skills to legitimate, long-term projects - projects that require not only technical skills and systems knowledge but also strategic thinking, innovation, knowledge of organizational dynamics, and effective communication.
Students report high levels of engagement in their GET internships, filling positions where they go beyond typical intern busywork, and produce real results.
This is the first year UD is participating in the GET interns program. Meet the 2010 UD-GET Class.
